Half of America exercises at least three or more times a week. I’m not sure why at least half of Americans don’t do meditation, considering the benefits. America is one of the most resilient countries in the world; the DNA of this country is made up of people that took risks and came from all over the world. I think Americans need to adopt a practice that’s been shown to increase resilience and compassion.
The pushup has been a standard part of being American. If you grow up in America and go to school, one of the first things you’re taught in gym class is how to do a pushup. Millions of Americans do pushups before work, during their lunch break, and at the gym. Because of pushups, we’ve mastered getting ripped pectorals, deltoids, and triceps.
However, we’ve done horrible at managing stress.
Stress is an obnoxious thing. If not managed, it can derail your career, love life, and compromise your brainpower. It saps your energy, causes you to do irrational things, and even makes you stupid. To do away with this feeling, we do all types of irrational behaviors, such as swear at our coworkers, and eat an obscene amount of junk food.
